The African Studies Outreach Program organizes and supports regular workshops for educators to discuss curricular approaches to the teaching of Africa.

In conjunction with our African Women Writers Festival, April 4-11, 2010, the Center for African Studies and the Department of Theatre will host a half-day teachers' workshop. Where teachers will learn more about the authors and performers coming, their works, the issues addressed, and receive curricular materials. CPDUs will be offered. School visits by the visitors are also a possibility.

This institute will introduce K-12 teachers, pre-service teachers, and community college instructors to useful content and curriculum ideas for teaching about African arts, history, languages and literatures, economics, cultures, and more! The sessions will be held in Champaign-Urbana on the University of Illinois campus. Sessions will be led by faculty and advanced graduate student whose work focuses on Africa. CPDUs will be offered.
